Yorkshire motorcycle accident spate prompts police warningRSS Feed
A recent spike in motorcycle accidents is causing concern for one police force.
Police are warning bikers about the risk of traffic accidents after five deaths in two weeks on roads in North Yorkshire.
North Yorkshire Deputy Chief Constable Adam Briggs said that 16 riders have been killed on roads in the area so far this year and he is keen to avoid a 17th.
He explained: "We simply do not want another needless and preventable death and all the heartache that goes with it.
"Therefore I am pleading with motorcyclists, the vast majority of whom are safe and sensible riders, to please take care and ride safely.
He urged bikers to think about their families and the effect that not returning home would have on them.
The news comes after both Scotland and Wales reported record-low death figures for last year.
