Yorkshire firm fined for accident at work riskRSS Feed
After a visit from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) that may have saved the firm paying out for accident claims, a North Yorkshire engineering company has been fined failing to protect its workers.
Lambert Engineering of Station Estate, Tadcaster, pleaded guilty to breaching health and safety legislation and was ordered to pay a £6,000 fine and over £4,000 in costs.
An HSE preventative investigation found that that an accident at work was waiting to happen, with protective guards on factory machinery either removed or disabled.
Key failings identified were poor risk assessment of processes and poor supervision of workers.
HSE inspector Geoff Fletcher said: "The company failed to ensure that their machines and specifically the safeguarding mechanism were maintained effectively, allowing dangerous practices to develop and remain unchecked over some ten years."
Luck rather than good management prevented an injury, he added.
The news comes as police in North Yorkshire are urging safer riding to reduce motorcycle accidents.
