World Superbike rider avoids motorcycle accident injuryRSS Feed
The outcome of a motorcycle accident involving Honda World Superbike rider Jonathan Rea could have been far worse ahead of this week's test.
Rea was involved in a test drive at the Phillip Island course in Australia, ahead of the official test and opening round of the championship later this week.
Proceedings had been stopped owing to rain, but once resumed, Rea took a corner too quickly and suffered a traffic accident.
The 24-year-old's crash followed 102 good laps. Fortunately, Rea sustained no broken bones in the crash, but was taken to hospital nonetheless as a precaution.
Commenting on the day's events, Rea revealed his frustration: "I hurt my neck a bit but the paramedics insisted on putting me in a brace and taking me to hospital where it took about four hours to get a scan.
"Everything was fine and it was a little frustrating to lose the time today."
Earlier this month, the Institute of Advanced Motorists indicated that called for better training for drivers that regularly use rural roads, which could help to reduce the risk of accident claims being made.
