Workplace drink and drugs policy 'can minimise accident claims risk'RSS Feed
Businesses may be able to reduce the accident claims risk in the workplace by implementing a clear policy on alcohol and drug use.
There are "sound moral, economic and legal reasons" for having such as policy, according to an article by Siobhan Harding in the Belfast Telegraph.
"Given the current pattern of drinking and the use of illicit drugs, problems relating to their use are likely to arise in workplace," stated Ms Harding, who is an information and policy officer with Citizens Advice.
As well as clearly setting out the rules, a drink and drugs policy is "a formal statement of an organisation's intent", she added.
Ms Harding's comments came after businesses in Northern Ireland were reminded to promote positive mental health and wellbeing in the workplace.
The Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland has launched new guidance that advises companies on how to take a positive organisation-wide approach by implementing changes in daily operations, such as improved line management and the provision of flexible working practices.
