A construction firm has been fined £10,000 after an employee's finger and thumb were amputated during an accident at work.
David Head, 24, was shaping a piece of wood when it got caught in the cutter and pulled his left hand into the blades, sawing off his finger and thumb and severely cutting his other digits.
Reconstructive plastic surgeons reattached the finger and thumb but Mr Head has been told he will only regain half their use.
G J Bream & Son Ltd joinery workshop in Chevington, Suffolk has been fined £10,000 and ordered to pay costs of £4026.55.
HSE Inspector, Ivan Brooke, said: "Incidents like this are entirely preventable with the right training, supervision and equipment."
This comes after news that James Thompson, of James Thompson Carpentry and Building was fined after an accident at work when a roofing contractor fell through a skylight and broke his back.
