Women 'put in fewer serious accident claims'RSS Feed
Men are more likely to put an accident claim for a serious incident while women are generally involved in more minor traffic accidents, according to new research from insurance firm Diamond.
When it comes to head-on collisions, driving into trees and hitting crash barriers, the insurer found that men were more at risk of having an accident.
Women, however, were shown to have put in more accident claims for theft and for minor scrapes and bumps.
Diamond's managing director Sian Lewis explained: "Women tend to be in more accidents at slower speeds where cars are close together, while men have more high-speed accidents where it is easy to lose control.
"Our research suggests the way men and women drive is different."
The insurance company looked at five years' worth of accident claims and also found that men's cars were inexplicably more likely to catch fire.
Figures recently released by the Scottish government showed that the number of traffic accidents in the country was at a 60-year low.
