Will police investigation prove crucial to potential accident claims case?

Police are investigating a traffic accident in Motherwell after a boy was hospitalised following a collision with a bus full of passengers.

There is suspicion that the 15-year-old was playing a game of 'chicken' with passing cars with a group of friends, reports the Herald Scotland.

Evidence gathered could be key if any accident claim is made relating to the incident. The boy, who was taken to nearby Wishaw General Hospital following the crash, may even lose his leg, according to the newspaper.

A Strathclyde Police spokeswoman told the publication: "Road policing officers are currently investigating the circumstances of the accident and are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time to get in touch."

Meanwhile, a recent study published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention underlined the financial cost of traffic accidents in the US.

An estimated $99 billion (£63 billion) in medical care and productivity losses resulting from motor vehicle crashes is believed to have been accrued in just the single year covered by the study.
