Wigan firm fined for accident at workRSS Feed
A Wigan-based firm has been fined after an accident at work left an employee with a severed finger.
The 46-year-old worker from Leigh lost part of his index finger and suffered a badly-cut middle finger and a dislocated ring finger in the incident at B&B Group's factory in September 2009.
He was drilling holes in an iron bar when his glove was caught in a rotating mechanism, pulling his hand into the drill.
A Health and Safety Executive (HSE) investigation found that the company had failed to provide a drill guard for the machine.
The company was fined £12,500, though no mention was made of a private accident claim being made.
HSE inspector Adam McMahon said: "Manufacturers who fail to prevent access to dangerous parts of machinery are breaking the law and we will continue to take enforcement action against them."
The news comes as agricultural business LD Heywood is fined after a worker fractured his skull in a roof fall.
