Welsh Assembly backs campaign to reduce accident claimsRSS Feed
The Welsh Assembly government has given its backing to a campaign which aims to reduce slips, trips and falls in the workplace and thus the number of accident claims brought against organisations.
Deputy first minister Ieuan Wyn Jones said he is "delighted" to support the Shattered Lives campaign being run by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
He pointed out that slips, trips and falls can carry a significant human cost as well as a financial one, due to lost working days and necessary workplace improvements.
"It is far better for companies to invest in safety measures beforehand, than have to deal with the aftermath of a serious incident," he added.
The Welsh Assembly government has held up the flagship A40 Penblewin to Slebech Park road improvement scheme as a model of good practice, with principal contractor Costain Ltd ensuring that staff have all the appropriate equipment needed to work safely.
Meanwhile, the HSE has revealed that more than a quarter of the construction sites visited in Greater Manchester last week failed safety inspections.
