Traffic accident 'will affect one child in every class'RSS Feed
A traffic accident will hurt or kill one child in every 27, less than the size of an average class, a new report reveals.
Over the course of a single year, one child in every 427 will be injured in a road traffic accident in the UK.
The study from Road Safety Analysis, which studied 120,000 child road casualties over five years, suggests a wide variation in the incidence of injuries across the country.
Children in Preston are twice as likely to be hurt on the road as kids in the rest of the UK and five times more likely to be injured than those in Kensington and Chelsea.
Dan Campsall, director of Road Safety Analysis, said: "The results of this study show a worrying discrepancy between different parts of the country.
"Children in some areas experience considerably higher risk from road traffic crashes than others who might be living just over the border."
The news comes as safety campaigners warn that turning off speed cameras could lead to more car and motorcycle accidents.
