Textile firm fined for accident at workRSS Feed
A textile company has been fined after an accident at work left a worker with a metal plate in his arm to support his broken bones.
Thirty-two-year-old Robert Dunn's arm was crushed by a fabric winding machine which he was operating.
A Health and Safety Executive (HSE) investigation found that there were inadequate safety guards in place and a lack of risk assessment.
The firm, E-Leather Limited, admitted to breaching safety regulations at Peterborough Magistrates' Court and was fined £13,500 and ordered to pay £5,000 in costs.
HSE inspector Alison Ashworth commented: "Robert Dunn suffered a terrible injury because of an incident that was entirely avoidable."
She explained that a suitable risk assessment would have established that there were inadequate safety guards in place.
"HSE will continue to prosecute companies that fail to carry out their duty to ensure the health and safety of their employees," Ms Ashworth added.
The news comes after Prestwich-based Viewline Northwest was fined for putting workers' lives at risk.
