Stafford hospital hit with accident claim delugeRSS Feed
Stafford Hospital has been hit with a deluge of medical negligence accident claims following the publication of an inquiry.
The number of people making claims against the Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust could even reach over 200, the board told the Sentinel.
Speaking to the newspaper, Julie Bailey, whose 86-year-old mother died while under the care of the trust, explained that the high level of claims coming after the inquiry, launched last year by health secretary Andy Burnham, comes as no surprise.
She added: "It just shows the extremity of the harm they were doing over the years."
Last month, the Care Quality Commission (CQC) interim chair Jo Williams said that there is "no excuse" for the "appalling care patients suffered" at the hospital.
In her response to the inquiry's findings, she added: "The experiences people describe in this report are deeply distressing and totally unacceptable."
From April 1st, CQC's new registration system is set to be implemented that would make it a legal requirement for NHS trusts to meet standards set out by the government.
