Snowy weather 'causing more accident claims'RSS Feed
Accident claims have risen due to the snowy weather causing more traffic accidents on Britain's roads.
AA Insurance has said there has been a 23 per cent rise in accidents since the start of the snowy weather and that a third of total claims are due to the weather.
Car accidents include collisions with objects from parked cars to hedges, walls, fences, bollards and lampposts.
In addition, 13 motorists have ended up in ditches due to the icy condition of the roads.
Simon Douglas, director of AA Insurance, said: "Fortunately, most people are driving more slowly than usual in such conditions so the majority of claims are at a relatively slow speed and damage tends to be less costly to repair."
Insurance claim quotes include one individual who had to abandon their car due to the weather and returned the next day to find it had been damaged by a snow plough.
