Seminar to look at traffic accident reductionRSS Feed
The effect of government cuts on road accident claims is the subject of a seminar taking place next month.
Road safety experts will meet to discuss how public spending constraints will impact on the traffic accident rate in Britain.
Hosted by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA), the seminar comes after many local councils were criticised by safety campaigners for turning off speed cameras in a bid to save money.
Julie Townsend from the road safety charity Brake described the decision to switch of the cameras as an "outrage".
"Speed cameras are proven to cut speeds and casualties in a cost effective way, so withdrawing them is madness, especially as the government has failed to offer any alternative," she said.
Speaking ahead of the seminar on February 15th, RoSPA head of road safety Kevin Clinton explained that while Britain has been successful in reducing accidents, the economic environment is now very different.
He added that the impact of the cuts is yet to be seen, but it is likely that there will more reductions in spending ahead.
