Scotland HSE event to reduce accident at work risk in constructionRSS Feed
Accidents at work are the subject of an event being held in Scotland later this month to encourage safer practices in the construction industry.
The free event at the Borders Union Showground on September 29th is part of a drive by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) to cut the number of deaths and serious injuries in the building sector.
HSE figures show 49 construction workers have been killed in Scotland in the last five years, and a further 7,000 were seriously injured in accidents at work.
The event is aimed at small to medium-sized enterprises, which account for three-quarters of fatal and serious accidents.
Part of the HSE's Working Well Together initiative, the half-day programme will offer practical information on dealing with common hazards.
HSE principal inspector Iain Brodie said: "Accidents on construction sites are often serious and can be fatal - it remains one of the most dangerous industries."
A recent report from the TUC suggested that many accidents at work go unreported.
