Review urges action on ice accident claimsRSS Feed
The risk of accident claims resulting from icy pavements could be tempered by the government issuing guidelines on clearing snow and ice from pavements, it has been claimed.
This is just one of several measures to improve the UK's ability to cope with another harsh winter like last year, recommended by the Winter Resilience Review.
It wants to see the government produce a "short, simple code on clearing snow and ice from pavements" to help guard against accident claims.
In addition, the review called on the government to import a quarter of a million tonnes of road salt to help councils reduce traffic accidents.
The review's chairman David Quarmby commented: "We can't know when such a severe winter will hit us again, but we can take steps as a nation, to ensure that when it does, we will cope better."
Recently, the Road Safety Foundation suggested that traffic accidents in the UK could be reduced by improving a few key roads that are accident black spots.
