Proposed removal of lights sparks worry of traffic accidentsRSS Feed
Worcester could see a rise in accident claims if a proposal to remove traffic lights from one of the city's busiest roundabouts goes ahead.
According to Worcester News, county councillor Richard Udall has expressed concern about the proposed trial which would see traffic lights on the Bullring roundabout switched off.
Councillor Udall told the newspaper that officers had informed him that when the lights were switched off last year due to road works caused 33 per cent more traffic accidents.
"I understand the desire to improve traffic flow, but the lights also have a role to improve safety. With lights turned on, the area has a much lower accident record," he told the newspaper.
This follows news that black ice covering the road of Scotland caused a series of traffic accidents on the day the nation returned to work following the Christmas break.
