Paraplegic 'hero' wins accident claimRSS Feed
A man who jumped to the rescue of the victim of a car crash is to receive compensation after he was struck by other cars, leaving him paralysed.
David Tolley suffered ten broken ribs and nearly severed his spinal cord when he was hit by oncoming vehicles as he got out of his car on the busy M53 to assist a woman involved in a crash.
He is now a paraplegic and has been forced to move to a bungalow specially adapted for his wheelchair.
Speaking in the Daily Telegraph, Mr Tolley said: "I wish things had turned out differently but I couldn't have stood by. My concern was that somebody could have hit that car and caused a pile-up.
"I don't like the term hero, I'd prefer to say I was being a good Samaritan."
Caring for someone who has been disabled can result in isolation, poverty and ill health, according to Carers UK website.
