Outdoor events accident claims targetedRSS Feed
The risk of accident claims arising from outdoor events this summer has been highlighted by an insurance company.
Aviva is warning firms that organise outdoor events that an accident claim could be the result of not managing liability risks properly.
Phil Grace, liability risk manager at the firm, said that any special event can pose additional liability risks to organisers.
He explained that the main concern is to make the event as safe as possible to prevent accident claims.
"Whether you are planning a village fete, regular events such as annual carnivals, or larger events involving hundreds or even thousands of people in attendance, a risk assessment should always be undertaken in advance to properly assess the additional risks," Mr Grace commented.
He added that it can be useful to obtain a risk assessment and a statement of methods from third parties, such as contractors and participants.
The Health and Safety Executive has a five-step guide on how to perform a risk assessment on its website.
