Olympic rower Cracknell in traffic accidentRSS Feed
The Olympic gold-medallist James Cracknell is in hospital after a traffic accident left the 38-year-old with a fractured skull.
He is said to be in a stable condition after the accident with a truck near the city of Winslow in Arizona and is expected to make a full recovery despite suffering a severe head wound and bruising to the brain.
A statement said: "He is conscious and his condition is stable; doctors have said he is making good progress."
Cracknell was cycling at the time and it is thought that his life was saved by his crash helmet, which absorbed most of the impact.
Friend and fellow TV adventurer Ben Fogle said: "I know how strong willed he is and I'm sure he'll bounce back soon."
The news comes after another Olympic gold medal-winning rower Sir Steve Redgrave was badly hurt in a cycling accident in the US, suffering multiple broken bones.
