October tyre safety campaign underway to cut traffic accidentsRSS Feed
In a bid to reduce the traffic accident rates, a major new tyre safety campaign has been launched for the month of October.
TyreSafe is urging motorists to take the 20p test this month to check if their tyres are safe for the road.
All that drivers need to do is to insert a 20p coin into the grooves of their tyres - if the outer rim of the coin is covered then tyres are road legal.
Bikers may also want to check if their tyres are safe in order to avoid a motorcycle accident.
TyreSafe chairman Stuart Jackson said: "Checking that your car's tyres have adequate tread depth is extremely simple and easy.
"With such potentially devastating and life-changing consequences, drivers should ask themselves if they can afford not to take the test."
The campaign comes as the Association of British Insurers calls for a one-year learning period for new drivers.
