Motorists risking accident claims with poor car maintenanceRSS Feed
Millions of drivers could be at risk of making accident claims that could be easily avoided with simple maintenance.
One in five motorists is neglecting to carry out regular, basic checks on their vehicle, such as making sure oil and water coolant is topped up, according to Sainsbury's Finance.
The biggest traffic accident risk identified comes from tyres, with 62 per cent of drivers failing to carry out monthly tread depth checks.
Other checks being neglected include windscreen wipers, brake lights, screen wash level and tyre pressures.
Ben Tyte, head of Sainsbury's Car Insurance, said: "Every day, we make considerations that will keep ourselves and our family healthy and safe, and we should apply the same train of thought to ensuring our cars are safe and roadworthy."
It comes as the AA reveals that the biggest concern for motorists at the moment is potholes, which have appeared in greater numbers as a result of the cold winter.
