Motorcycle accidents claim 3 lives

Accident claim worries may have been heightened after two motorcycle accidents claimed three lives in Canada.

According to reports in the Canadian press, a motorcycle accident claimed the lives of a man in his 50s and his 16-year old daughter in Montreal on Sunday (June 27th).

The family's mother was injured in the same incident, in which their bikes smashed into the back of a car that had stopped to allow ducks to pass across a main highway.

Surete du Quebec Sergeant Richard Gange told the Montreal Gazette that the woman driving the car may face criminal charges.

"One thing is for sure, it is forbidden to immobilise your vehicle in the middle of the road unless it is an extreme emergency," he commented.

In a separate incident another man in his 50s was killed in after he was thrown from his bike after missing an exit.

It is thought that all three riders were wearing helmets when they were killed.

In the UK, the Department for Transport recently released its Safety Helmet Assessment and Rating Programme, which grades helmets on their effectiveness in an accident.
