Motorcycle accident kills father-of-twoRSS Feed
A motorcycle accident has claimed the life of an experienced rider and left a spectator in hospital with broken bones.
Myles Byrne died after being flung from his bike in an accident at the Skerries 100 road race north of Dublin.
The incident also resulted in a spectator suffering two broken legs after he was struck by the flying bike.
Racing was abandoned following the accident that occurred shortly after the start of the grand final of the 65th Skerries event.
The motorcycle accident happened at a corner named after local rider Martin Finnegan, who died at the spot in 2008.
Fingal Independent's motorcycle correspondent Jack Corry told the Irish Independent that Byrne had a lot of friends and that "everyone is devastated".
"He was always being slagged for having the cleanest bike. Myles was a very safe driver and he'd rather finish last than do something stupid," he commented.
The spectre of accident claims arising from motorcycle accidents was recently raised after one rider was killed at this year's Isle of Man TT races.
