Motorcycle accident claims may have been reduced with road safety campaignRSS Feed
A fall in accident claims could be the result of a road safety campaign at this year's Isle of Man TT races, it has been claimed.
Police on the island are attributing a fall in serious accidents to measures taken by them and other groups to promote better awareness of safety on the roads.
The Isle of Man TT races, held every year, see hundreds of amateur and professional motorcyclists come to race around the challenging circuit that covers the island.
Figures from the police show that there were fewer serious injury accidents and a fall in the total number of collisions from 99 last year to 86 in 2010.
Head of the Roads Policing Unit Inspector Mark Britton said: "I attribute that to the great partnerships we have developed with other agencies, which enable us to collaborate over the road safety campaign, and other strategies to help keep accidents to a minimum."
One of the measures brought in was the use of crash cards by riders. These hold vital information for ambulance crews attending accidents and were introduced by the Ambulance Motorcycle Club for the first time at TT races this year.
