Man breaks vertebrae in accident at workRSS Feed
A man suffered serious spinal injury during an accident at work when he fell more than five metres after experiencing an electric shock.
David Minor, a mechanical fitter, suffered broken vertebrae when the crane ladder he was climbing made contact with a live conductor, causing him to fall 18 feet to the ground.
As well as spinal injury, he suffered a broken ankle, smashed heel and burns on his hands due to the accident at building and timber merchants Ridgeons Ltd.
HSE Inspector Jonathan Elven said: "It is essential for companies to ensure that work undertaken on their behalf by subcontractors is properly managed and safe systems of work agreed prior to work commencing."
This comes after retail display company Arken PoP was fined £80,000 and ordered to pay costs of £16,914 when an employee was crushed by sheets of glass on his first day at work.
