London accident claims tackled by roadshowRSS Feed
Accident claims arising from injuries sustained on construction sites could be one of the things reduced by a new campaign by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
The White Van Roadshow is visiting London this week and next in an attempt to raise awareness in the building industry about the risks that workers face.
Figures from the HSE show that 11 people were killed and 1,553 injured on construction sites in the capital in 2008/09.
The roadshow will visit sites in Poplar, Bow, Hackney and Clapham to discuss issues such as working at height and manual handling risks.
Tim Shambrook, HSE project manager, said: "The aim of the tour is to be engaging and show construction workers that we understand the pressures of working on a construction site but that cutting corners when it comes to health and safety is never a good idea."
Recently, the roadshow visited sites in the north-west of England where it undertook similar workshops on construction safety.
