Lincolnshire food firm prosecuted for accident at workRSS Feed
A Lincolnshire food company has been fined after an accident at work that left an employee with a broken bone.
QV Foods Ltd, of Manor Farm, Holbeach Hun, was prosecuted and fined £15,000 after a falling crate landed on a worker.
Kings Lynn Magistrates' Court heard how the 43-year-old employee suffered a fractured knee and bruising to her back that led her to be hospitalised.
Health and Safety Executive inspector Judith McNulty-Green said she may not have endured such a serious accident had the company thought through a safe system of work.
"This was an entirely preventable incident, but the company failed to make sure work stations were a safe distance from moving vehicles and materials being handled that might fall," she added.
It comes as Camden Council is fined £72,000 after a child was killed when sections of a wall fell on top of him.
The council was prosecuted for not properly maintaining the wall, which collapsed and killed two-year-old Saurav Ghai in 2007.
