Job that injured builders 'not properly planned', says investigationRSS Feed
A Wiltshire building firm has been held responsible for an accident at work where a wall collapsed on its employees, an investigation has said.
One builder was badly hurt and another had cuts and bruises when the accident occurred at a domestic property in Chirton last year.
The 17-year-old builder suffered a fractured pelvis, ligament damage to his ankle and chipped teeth as a result of the accident at work.
When the wall collapsed on the builders, who worked for Simon Jones Restoration and Re-design Ltd, they were trying to create an opening in a lime mortar gable.
Reports maintain that the property that the property was in poor condition, which could have contributed to the accident.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) investigated the accident and concluded that the job was not planned to satisfactory health and safety standards.
HSE inspector Mark Renouf said: "[The job] needed to be carefully and meticulously planned with the involvement of a competent engineer. Unfortunately this was not done and as a result led to terrible consequences."
The HSE's function is to provide advice to planning authorities on proposed developments in hazard sites.
