Health and safety professionals 'successfully reduce accident claims in UK workplaces'RSS Feed
Health and safety professionals have played a major role in ensuring that the UK has the best health and safety record in Europe, according to an industry body.
Rob Strange, chief executive of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), said this record is something to be proud of.
He hit out at a new report published by the Policy Exchange, which claimed that Britain's health and safety culture "is having a pernicious effect on our lives".
The report, entitled Health and Safety: Reducing the burden, claimed that a compensation culture linked to the health and safety industry is having a negative effect on society.
But Mr Strange said the report was citing a familiar but "misguided" scapegoat, adding: "There's a cumulative danger of the public turning its back on health and safety, encouraged to see it as more an irritation than a necessity to protect life and limb."
