HSE and British Sugar reduce accidents at work

Potential accident claims from accidents at work are being reduced by a formal arrangement between the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and British Sugar.

The two organisations have signed a memorandum of understanding that builds on their partnership and aims to reduce injuries and ill health arising from accidents at work.

HSE will support the company to develop sensible risk control systems, while British Sugar plans to champion the drive to improve workplace safety and be an example to other firms and organisations.

David Ashton, HSE's director of field operations said:"British Sugar has put considerable effort into making improvements to its health and safety performance over the last five years."

British Sugar UK and Ireland managing director Gino De Jaegher commented: "Health and safety is of critical importance to our business and our people, and supports our vision to eliminate all injuries by thinking safety first in everything we do."

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents has recognised British Sugar in the past, most recently with the Order of Distinction for a number of its sites.
