HSE aims to prevent accident claims in flood-hit CockermouthRSS Feed
Experts from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) are working in the flood-hit town of Cockermouth with the aim of promoting safety and preventing any accident claims during rebuilding work.
Dave Charnock, a specialist construction inspector at HSE in Cumbria, acknowledged that local homeowners and businesses want to see their properties restored as soon as possible.
"But it's simply not worth trying to finish jobs quickly if it means lives are going to be put at risk," he warned.
HSE advisers are therefore on hand to assist construction workers in Cockermouth, he revealed, giving them advice and support as they undertake refurbishment projects.
Businesses all over the country were recently urged by the HSE to boost employee engagement with health and safety issues in order to reduce the number of injuries in the workplace.
The HSE's Do Your Bit campaign was launched after research showed that greater employee involvement has a positive effect on health and safety performance.
