Groups sign agreement to cut accident at work risk in constructionRSS Feed
In a move to reduce accident claims in the construction industry, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and the Building Control Alliance (BCA) have signed a partnership agreement.
The agreement will see greater cooperation between the HSE and building control professionals in giving advice to the construction industry.
HSE chief inspector of construction Philip White said the agreement will help to "spread the health and safety message" to limit accidents at work, particularly in small sites where the bulk of fatal accidents occur.
"Today's agreement does not change a duty holder's responsibility to protect workers health and safety but has created another opportunity to get potentially life-saving advice to those responsible for health and safety standards on construction sites," he added.
BCA chair Diane Marshall said building control professionals are ideally suited to dispense health and safety advice in the course of their inspections.
In Scotland, an event is taking place on September 29th at the Borders Union Showground to raise awareness of health and safety issues in the building industry.
