FO report highlights accident claims abroadRSS Feed
Brits on their holidays could be making more accident claims, after a new report shows that more people are getting into trouble abroad.
The Foreign Office's (FO) latest British Behaviour Abroad report shows that many Brits are getting themselves into "preventable" problems while on holiday.
In addition to drink and drug related incidents, the report highlights the high rate of traffic accidents in which British tourists are involved.
Foreign & Commonwealth Office minister Jeremy Browne said: "The worrying fact is that so many of these situations are preventable.
"Helping out Britons in trouble abroad is part of our job, but we can't get you out of jail or pay your hospital bills."
One case study from the report highlights a traffic accident in which a 19-year-old British male suffered serious injuries that he was not covered for by his travel insurance.
A recent survey from Sainsbury's Travel found that over half a million Brits travelled abroad last year without insurance.
