Employers 'not learning from past accident claims'RSS Feed
Many employers may be putting their staff at risk by ignoring previous accident claims.
This is the warning from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA), which is worried not enough is being done to save lives.
People are still being injured in "easily preventable" accidents at work because not enough is being done to ensure safety, said RoSPA occupational safety adviser Roger Bibbings.
He explained that having a good health and safety culture in the workplace is a "good thing", as it save lives, reduces injuries and boosts efficiency.
Such a system needs "robust" health and safety management systems in place, Mr Bibbings added.
He continued: "Too many employers are still not learning lessons from accidents and incidents, especially near misses which should be seen as 'gold dust' since they are much easier to learn from than events leading to injury."
Recruitment firm Michael Page recently found in a survey of employees that 30 per cent had taken time off in the last month to cope with being over-worked.
