Egg firm fined for exposing employees to riskRSS Feed
An egg packing business in Banff has been fined after exposing employees to risk that could have caused an accident at work.
Two years ago, an inspection by the Health and Safety Executive found that the guarding on the screw conveyors at the site was not adequate to prevent access to the moving parts of the machinery.
However, the owner of the premises failed to comply with the instructions and was recently fined £3,000, despite no accident at work occurring.
"Unguarded machinery continues to be a major cause of serious incidents," said HSE inspector Peter Dodd.
"This case shows that where HSE inspectors find blatant disregard for the law they will not hesitate to take action against those responsible for creating the risk."
Mr Dodd's comments were clearly demonstrated at a Rochdale food packaging factory, which was recently fined £27,500 after an employee was dragged into a machine, causing friction burns.
