Drivers at risk of traffic accident from poor visibilityRSS Feed
A quarter of male drivers are at severe risk of a traffic accident by not clearing their windscreens properly in cold weather, new research reveals.
Men aged between 25 and 34 in particular have been found to be guilty of driving off without de-icing their cars properly, with 37 per cent of this age group saying they just do not have time in the mornings, according to the study from Churchill.
The survey also noted that motorists are risking theft by leaving their cars running as they go inside.
Head of car insurance at Churchill Tony Chilcott suggests drivers should allow an extra ten minutes in the morning to clear their cars.
"If there is snow on top of your vehicle when you drive off or you are unable to see clearly, you risk a fine and in some cases, you could receive points on your licence," he adds.
It comes after a survey from Direct Line and the road safety charity Brake warned of motorists risking accident claims by "lethal" overtaking on country roads.
