Company fined after three workers fell through skylightsRSS Feed
A company has been fined £5,000 after three workers experienced an accident at work, falling through skylights at the same place on different occasions, leaving one with severe spinal injury.
One worker employed by Bizspace Investments Ltd, was clearing guttering in March 2007 when he fell through a skylight on a Warrington industrial unit.
Another employee of the same company was taking photographs of the scene at the site on Craven Court industrial estate at Winwick Quay when he fell through a different skylight although he escaped injury.
Three weeks afterwards, a worker employed by Massey Roofing and Building Contractors was repairing the skylights when he fell more than four metres to the ground, sustaining severe spinal injuries and being paralysed from the waist down.
Bizspace was fined £5,000 and ordered to pay costs of £9,000 after pleading guilty to a breach of the Health and Safety at Work Act while Anthony Massey received a conditional discharge as he had been declared bankrupt.
