A steel manufacturing company has been fined £15,000 and ordered to pay costs of £5,000 after a three tonne tank fell on an employee during an accident at work.
Wefco (Gainsborough) Ltd of Britannia Works were fined for failing to ensure the safety of worker Edward Baxter to suffered multiple fractures to his pelvis, spine and ribs, a fractured leg as well as ankle and head injuries.
HSE Inspector, Steve Woods, said that the accident at work could have been avoided had a safe system of work been observed.
"An incident like this demonstrates how vital it is that safe working procedures are communicated to and understood by people who carry out such lifting tasks," he continued.
This comes after a construction firm was fined £10,000 for an accident at work during which an employee's finger and thumb were amputated.
