Company director prosecuted after accident at workRSS Feed
An accident at work in which a worker fell 30 feet from scaffolding has resulted in prosecution of the firm responsible and its director.
JBB Homes was fined £20,000 after pleading guilty to breaching health and safety regulations and its director James Burt was fined a further £10,00 after he too admitted guilt.
The case pertains to an incident at a building site in Llanfairfechan in 2007 in which a 28-year-old man broke his pelvis in three places after falling while attempting to replace a lintel.
Health and Safety Executive inspector Debbie John said Nicholas Roberts was "extremely lucky" to be alive.
"Falls from height remain the single biggest cause of workplace deaths and one of the main causes of major injury and construction companies must not leave safety of their workers as an after-thought, which could lead to tragic consequences," she added.
The news comes after two construction companies were fined a total of £125,000 after a worker was left with long-term injuries after falling 21 metres from a hospital building.
