Company bosses fined for accident at workRSS Feed
An accident at work has seen two company heads prosecuted and fined after an employee has the ends of two fingers severed.
The worker was operating a hydraulic press that crushed his fingers in the incident at Lupton Fabrications, a metal fabricating firm.
It was found that photoelectric detectors called light curtains, which protect workers from the closing tools of the press, were often overridden and not in operation at the time of the accident.
The two bosses, Dennis Brunt and Peter Critchard were jointly fined £2,001, along with their new company Stealsafe.
Health and Safety Executive inspector Angus Robbins described the incident as "unacceptable".
He added: "The fact the light curtains were in place and were readily repaired following the serving of the prohibition notices means this terrible incident could - and should - have been prevented."
The news comes after a haulage firm was fined after a man was left with brain damage in an accident at work.
