Black ice on Scottish roads causes numerous traffic accidentsRSS Feed
Black ice once again covered the roads of Scotland, causing a series of traffic accidents on the day many returned to work after the Christmas holidays.
Transport secretary Keith Brown was criticised over the delays, caused by numerous traffic accidents, but he claimed that it is down to drivers to take more care on the roads.
Fifteen different vehicles were involved in the traffic accidents on the M8, which was closed following the incidents and a police car attending a five-car smash was reportedly hit by a motor that had spun out of control.
Mr Brown said: "All trains are operating as per schedule. And the transport system, by and large, is moving. I would say to drivers they really have to take care because there is a black ice threat, which we've advertised for a number of days now, including all the media outlets."
This comes after reports that a man in Devon was injured in a traffic accident when the gritter he was driving skidded off the road and fell nine metres down a bank.
