Accident claims risk this bank holiday, warns expertRSS Feed
Badly worn tyres could be the cause of a flood of accident claims this bank holiday after a car industry expert warned that millions of us drive on unsafe tyres.
Nearly a third of motorists drive with at least one illegal tyre and four out of five car owners use badly worn sets of tyres.
Micheldever Tyres Services, an independent tyre dealer network, carried out the research at its main outlet in Hampshire and says the findings are "worrying".
Chief executive Paul Fox said: "The reality is that delaying the replacement of badly worn tyres is a false economy that places drivers, their passengers and other road users at serious risk."
The company believes that up to ten million drivers could be breaking the law and compromising safety with illegal tyres and is offering motorists a free tyre safety check at all of its outlets.
Tyre Safe, a charity, advises checking tyre pressures once a month.
