Accident claims prompt road narrowingRSS Feed
Road works being carried out in Reading have led to a fear of accident claims after a number of near misses, it has been reported.
According to the Reading Post, work happening as part of the Reading Station redevelopment has sparked fears over pedestrians' safety as people are crossing busy roads to avoid the works, despite warnings not to do so.
The paper reports that councillors raised concerns at a traffic meeting and called for action to be taken.
Councillor Richard Willis said: "It is not safe and it is something that we believe needs to be changed and the only way we can do this, is to narrow the lanes on the road to allow the works to continue.
"Network Rail has agreed that this is the best solution to the problem."
The news comes after the BBC reported that a couple suffered a serious motorcycle accident in a collision with a car in Moray, Scotland.
