Accident claims news: Gas safety the focus of new HSE website

A new website providing property landlords with information about domestic gas safety has been launched by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) with support from the National Landlords Association.

The site aims to act as a one-stop-shop for buy-to-let investors who want to ensure they are keeping their tenants safe.

Information is broken down into sections such as repair and maintenance, annual gas safety checks and record keeping, all of which could assist landlords in reducing the number of accident claims they may face as a result of failure to comply.

"Though there are legal duties on landlords, meeting them shouldn't be an onerous task. The new website provides all the information landlords need in one place," said Peter Brown, head of the work environment, radiation and gas division at the HSE.

Landlords can access the new microsite via the main HSE website.

Any gas engineer that carries out work at a property must be registered with Gas Safe Register, which is the official body for gas safety in the UK, the Isle of Man and Guernsey.
