Accident claims 'may be reduced by moving goods safely'RSS Feed
Reducing accidents and accident claims on the roads is the subject of an initiative which is aimed teaching people how to move goods safely.
The Moving Goods Safely (MGS) seminar, taking place in Leicester in June, is part of a national project from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) aimed at educating both bosses and employees in proper safety procedures when transporting goods.
MGS will look at ways of improving the management of workplace transport and road safety in organisations, including transporting goods from premises to customers by road and controlling risks while on the road.
Some 50 deaths and 1,500 serious accidents a year involve workplace transport and 15 deaths a week occur to people driving to work, according to the HSE.
Over 2,000 people a year are killed on Britain's roads, figures from the Department for Transport suggest.
There were a total of 230,905 reported casualties of all severities on UK roads during 2008, the most recent year for which statistics are available.
