Accident claims 'can be reduced by employee engagement'RSS Feed
Businesses may be able to reduce the number of workplace injuries and accident claims by encouraging workers to get more involved in health and safety issues, it is believed.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has launched a new campaign with the title Do Your Bit, in response to research which suggests that greater employee involvement has a positive effect on health and safety performance.
As part of the year-long initiative, businesses are being offered free or subsidised training courses for their staff.
The campaign is initially being aimed at those in the construction, manufacturing, transport and motor vehicle repair sectors, although professionals in any field are invited to express their interest in fully-funded training packages.
HSE chair Judith Hackitt said: "Where businesses have good workforce involvement, they also often achieve better performance in health and safety and experience better productivity, because their staff are motivated and feel engaged in the organisation."
The HSE was set up to prevent death, injury and ill health in the workplace and in work-related activities.
