Accident claims at risk with false informationRSS Feed
Thousands of motorists are putting potential accident claims in jeopardy by knowingly giving false information to their insurers, the Association of British Insurers (ABI) has found.
Car and motorcycle accident claims could be invalidated in over half of policies, with 53 per cent of people thinking it is acceptable or borderline behaviour for an older, lower-risk driver to insure a vehicle when a younger motorist is the main user.
One in five drivers would not rule out exaggerating the number of years since they last claimed, while 12 per cent said they might not disclose motoring convictions.
Ten per cent of drivers would consider changing personal details like their age, address or occupation to get cheaper insurance.
"If you're dishonest with your insurer that could be counterproductive - particularly at this time, when premium rates across the board are rising and people can be tempted to be a bit economical with the truth," commented Malcolm Tarling from the ABI.
