Accident claims 'a major problem' in woodwork industry

Accident claims are a significant problem in the woodworking sector, with large numbers of workers suffering injuries each year.

According to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), woodworking is one of the most dangerous of all manufacturing industries.

Last year, more than 300 workers suffered major injuries and over 1,100 people were off work for more than three days following an accident, according to HSE figures.

A newly designed website aimed at woodworking employees has now been created by the HSE, which aims to make workers fully aware of the risks they face and how best to minimise them.

Explaining that the new-look website has been designed in close consultation with the sector, the HSE's Tim Small said: "We hope it will help to reduce the unacceptably high number of incidents that can seriously affect people's lives."

The HSE has also this week launched a new website aimed at property investors, providing information on issues relating to gas safety legislation.
