Accident claim worries for East Midlands construction sitesRSS Feed
Accident claim concerns have been raised as research find that many construction sites are not meeting health and safety requirements.
Several construction sites across the East Midlands have been served with Health and Safety Executive (HSE) enforcement notices requiring them to make improvements, in some cases requiring them to stop work immediately.
HSE inspectors carried out site surveys in Derbyshire, Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire in March, finding that most met current safety regulations.
However, they issued a total of 44 enforcement notices to employers, citing unsafe work being carried out at height as the main area of concern.
Richard Lockwood, the HSE's principal inspector of construction for the East Midlands, said: "HSE will not tolerate poor health and safety standards on construction sites and we will continue to make unannounced visits and take enforcement action when necessary, until the message gets across.
"It simply isn't worth taking risks to try and save money."
The HSE is currently touring construction sites across the north-west of England with its White Van Road Show in an effort to prevent accidents in the industry.
